In 14th century, the formation of regional states (republics, principalities) represented a crucial phenomenon that re-shaped the political map of the Italian peninsula. In such a context, propaganda played an active role in the state-building process: by considering some specific cases (Milan, Florence, Verona) I will explain how these new political institutions tried to justify their power and to delegitimize opponents.
